This book (TM65LA) aims to complement CIBSE TM65 Embodied carbon in building services: A calculation methodology, and to create global consistency on how the embodied carbon of building services equipment can be assessed. As such, it sets out how the embodied carbon methodology can be adapted to be used outside of the UK. It is not a standalone document, and cannot be applied without first understanding TM65. To ensure that the CIBSE embodied carbon methodology is globally valid and globally consistent, CIBSE supports the creation of local addenda to TM65 that are specific to localities outside of the UK. This document aims to assist in the creation of these local addenda. Assumptions should be relevant to the locality in question, and consistent with the CIBSE TM65 methodology

Control rooms can be complex, having many operators with their often extensive arrangement of screens around them and perhaps large overview screens on walls in front of them. Many rooms operate 24 hours a day, some monitoring and controlling safety-critical operations. For these reasons establishing the geometry between operators, their screens, larger remote room displays, and the lighting and any windows is crucial. Designing the lighting, daylight admission, sunlight control and lighting control systems require discussion and cooperation between the lighting designers and others involved in the design of the room. In control rooms monitoring life- or safety-critical operations if the power to the normal lighting fails full or partial standby lighting will normally be needed throughout the room. As this will be supplied from UPS and/or standby generators, early discussion with the electrical designers is vital. These issues need to be decided upon as early as possible in the design process. Once all building, electrical and display screen/user parameters are established the design of the lighting, and possibly daylight control, can be carried out. As well as making sure no bright images are visible to the users on any of their screens, the room lighting needs to provide a constant minimum level to ensure the operators remain alert - this is most important during the night shift where there may be an increased risk of operators becoming sleepy if the room lighting is dim

- Summary

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during a buildings lifecycle. Today, more and more architectural firms have adopted BIM software and processes because it allows them to produce measurably more work of better quality, in shorter periods of time. Featuring case studies of firms of all sizes, this practical resource shows you how to implement BIM in the building industry around the globe. The book explains how BIM allows collected data to be used and added to during the occupied life of the building. You also become knowledgeable about the changing role of architects within the building industry as they embed BIM in their workflow. From interoperability and open standards, knowledge sharing, and gathering data, to the BIM software suite, implementation planning, and project workflow, this authoritative volume provides a thorough understanding of key aspects of BIM
