"As one of the most important painter-etchers of the Dutch Golden Age, the print oeuvre of the Haarlem artist Adriaen van Ostade had been catalogued a number of times during the past two centuries, most thoroughly by Louis Godefroy in 1930, now almost a hundred years ago. His pioneering work has now been brought up-to-date and expanded by this new catalogue raisonné of Van Ostade's etchings.To compile these New Hollstein volumes on Adriaen van Ostade, more collections than ever before were consulted. An almost infinite number of digital photographs of thousands of impressions was thus obtained. By minutely comparing these a much more accurate description of the numerous states of his prints could be made, as well as a distinction between contemporary and posthumous states. All of these are illustrated. Moreover, Van Ostade's etched oeuvre is arranged chronologically for the first time and many previously unknown copies after his prints are listed and illustrated. The introduction offers new insights into the artist's development as an etcher. An explanation is, for instance, sought for Van Ostade's sudden loss of interest in etching around 1653, after a few productive years in this field."-- Provided by publisher.

With around 130 masterpieces, the exhibition showcases Albrecht Dürer's entire artistic oeuvre. For the first time, the multi-faceted history of the inventory itself is also made visible. It leads from the beginnings of the Kupferstichkabinett in 1831 and the founding of the Reich in 1871, through the Gründerzeit and the years of National Socialism to the war-related division of the holdings and their reunification in the Kulturforum in 1994. Today, the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett has one of the world's most important collections of hand drawings and prints by Dürer.

Leo Steinberg was the rare art historian who turned his inquisitive eye and captivating prose to both Renaissance and modern art. His astonishingly wide-ranging scholarship addresses such canonical artists as Michelangelo Buonarroti, Leonardo da Vinci, Peter Paul Rubens, Pablo Picasso, and Jasper Johns. While Steinberg's significance to the field of art history is widely acknowledged, his activity as a print collector is less well-known. Beginning in the early 1960s with only the meager budget of a part-time art history professor, Steinberg amassed a collection that comprehensively illustrates the history of European printmaking. Akin to books on a shelf, Steinberg's prints formed a visual library that shaped his scholarship in fundamental ways. Selections from his over 3500 prints will illuminate Steinberg's insight that prints are the "circulating lifeblood of ideas," disseminating compositions, motifs, and styles across geographic, material and temporal boundaries, while also presenting highlights of the European printmaking tradition.

"The Folly Cove Designers (officially 1941-1969) was a grassroots collective of predominantly women block printers founded by Caldecott Award-winner and beloved children's book author/illustrator Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios (of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel fame). This trailblazing Gloucester, Massachusetts-based group produced more than three hundred distinct designs, which they block printed on fabric. The designs conveyed personal and regional narratives through the use of shared design principles and the compelling language of pattern. The group was propelled to international fame through commercial contracts with major retailers (F. Schumacher, Lord & Taylor, etc.), articles in leading periodicals such as Life, and participation in seminal fine craft exhibitions. Their work continues to inspire contemporary printmakers around the globe, particularly women printmakers. As the first comprehensive history of the Folly Cove Designers, Trailblazing Women Printmakers documents and celebrates the group's tremendous success and the incredible artistry of its members."
